WHAT IS SHOCKWAVE?
Radial shockwaves are acoustic sound waves transmitted by a shockwave trigger held against the skin. This can access the underlying tissues to help trigger a response in musculoskeletal tissue for acute and chronic conditions. This can help with faster healing and tissue regeneration. Some of the Medical Effects are reversing chronic inflammation, stimulating new collagen production, new blood vessel formation, eliminating calcification, pain reduction and releasing trigger points.
Conditions that Shockwave therapy can be effective for are:
Patella Inflammation (Jumpers Knee)
Elbow Pain/Inflammation (e.g. tennis elbow)
Heel Spurs/Plantar Fasciitis
Muscle strain (e.g hamstring strain)
Hip Pain (e.g. hip bursitis)
Chronic Tendinopathy (e.g. shoulder, hip, knee)
Tibial Stress Syndrome
ABOUT THE TREATMENT
The initial phase of treatment may cause some deep pain however this indicates the shockwaves are correctly targeting of the problem. This can be followed by numbness and heaviness, and towards the end of the treatment this becomes less painful.
The treatment takes approximately 10 minutes and you may receive up to 2000 pulses. Many of our patients find pain relief 5-10 days after the first treatment and depending on your condition and your tissue response you may require from 1 to 8 treatments.
AFTER THE TREATMENT
You may feel some soreness and this can increase the night following the treatment. There may also be some redness and bruising to the treatment area. You should rest from aggravating activities for 1-2 days after treatment. You may start to experience pain relief and improvements in function the next few days after the first treatment.
